Beginner’s Guide to Dermal Fillers. What to Expect?

What are Dermal Fillers?

Most Dermal Fillers are made of a substance called hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in our body, however, as we age, the amount diminishes. Along with the effects of aging, this causes us to lose “plumpness” and volume in our face, neck, hands, etc. Not only are dermal fillers helpful in restoring lost volume but they can also help enhance your inherent natural beauty.

There are many different types of dermal fillers in the market at the moment, however, it is important to have a thorough consultation to determine which filler would be best to address your concerns and aesthetic goals.

At MedWell Aesthetics, we only use FDA approved products and tend to like fillers that give a more natural and soft result such as Versa + or Restylane products. We will always choose what is best for YOU!

How Do I Find the Right Injector? I do NOT want to look fake!

Through a thorough and extensive consultation!

You’re considering dermal fillers but it’s your first time and you’re scared of looking fake or overdone. That is a totally reasonable concern!

Ask to see before & after pictures. If you look at their pictures and everyone ends up looking the same or they themselves look overfilled, RUN.

At MedWell Aesthetics, we look at the entire face as one unit, one feature complementing the next. It would be a huge disservice to treat one area in isolation without supporting the surrounding anatomical structures. Once you are able to provide BALANCE in the features, you will look like YOU but better!

When areas are treated in isolation or too much is used in one area alone while ignoring the other areas of the face, that is when things look unnatural and off-balance.

Treatment Areas

As mentioned previously, we are not your typical med spa. We take a global approach to aesthetics and thrive in delivering full face natural results.

The areas we specialize in:

Temple Filler

Tear Trough Filler (Under-Eye Filler)

Cheek Filler

Nasolabial Folds Filler (Smilelines)

Lip Filler

Chin Filler

Marionette Filler (Shadow)

Jawline Filler

*We do not do filler in the nose or the forehead as this is very high-risk area*

Results

After the treatment, you will notice bruising and swelling which is completely expected. That should subside within 2 weeks. I advise taking arnica 7 days prior and after treatment.

Avoid alcohol, NSAIDs (Advil, Ibuprofen), and fish oil 72 hours prior to the treatment and 48-72 hours post treatment.

It is also advised to not perform any heavy exercises for 48-72 hours post treatment.

Some asymmetry is expected the days following treatment, this will resolve on its own. Please give it two full weeks to settle.

At MedWell Aesthetics, we provide a free 2-week follow-up to ensure the desired results have been achieved.

How Long Does Filler Last?

This is dependent on a multitude of factors such as product type, lifestyle, metabolism, and area treated.

On average, fillers can last anywhere from 6 months-18 months depending on the above factors.

During the consultation, all of this should be discussed along with maintenance appointments.

Can Filler Be Dissolved?

As long as the dermal filler that was used was a Hyaluronic Acid (HA) filler, it can be dissolved using an enzyme called Hylenex.

The number of vials needed to dissolve is dependent on the amount of product used and placement. On average most clients need anywhere from 2-15 vials of dissolver if they have an overfilled or “puffy” result from elsewhere.

How to Book

We hope this has alleviated some of the concerns related to dermal fillers!

Remember, Dermal Fillers can be very natural and beautiful when done artistically considering the science behind each injection site! So please choose your injector wisely!
